My personal learning goals for this program:
- How to become a Media Specialist;
- How to become a teacher of knowledge (and a teacher in general for that matter);
- How to become an effective locater, finder, and user of information;
- How to effectively teach students to be effective locators, finders, and users of information.
How I've met my goals in this program:
- By successfully completing this entire program and graduating;
- By making all A's in the School Library Media courses and the Big 8 Assessments;
- By completing an Internship, which gave me the hands-on experience necessary for this profession;
- By interacting with my mentor and all my peers (big thanks to Kate Hoppenrath) in cohort 6 for ideas and inspiration.
How this program has prepared me for the future:
- By allowing me to complete real life projects that can be easily used in my future career;
- By providing the support and structure needed to attain the most effective knowledge necessary;
- By hearing real stories from persons in the field as to what and what not to do in your career;
- By offering a flexible cohort schedule which afforded me the opportunity to complete this program.
My future professional plans:
- To be the best Media Specialist and teacher I can possible be;
- To make good, beneficial changes to the media program at my new school, South Hall Middle School;
- To continue being a life-long learner and eventually pursue a Specialist degree;
- To always know that a love of reading is the heart of an effective media program.
Unique characteristics:
- Before completing this program, I had an eight-year career in banking and finance;
- In April 2005 I successfully donated my left kidney to my father-in-law;
- My little brother is a United States Marine serving at the US Embassy in Berlin, Germany;
- I love running and have completed four full marathons (that's 26.2 miles each in case you don't know).
My life goals:
- To spend the next 30 years working as a Media Specialist;
- To never stop learning;
- To always stop and smell the roses;
- To be the best wife I can be to my husband Matt.
How I met the Department's diversity requirement:
- Through a one-year employment as a Special Education Paraprofessional assisting students with learning disabilities;
- Through observations and classrooms visits to schools who had significant Hispanic and Southeast Asian populations;
- Through my internship at a school where 42% of the students are on the free/reduced lunch program;
- Through the completion of an Exceptional Children course taught through Northeast Georgia RESA.
