The School Library Media Center is an integral part of the school’s total education program and encourages the enjoyment of reading and learning. It provides a learning environment that promotes inquiry, stimulates intellectual curiosity, encourages pleasure reading, and develops diverse interests for the enjoyment of life-long learning. The media center guarantees open, equal, and flexible access to information, equipment, materials and facilities. It facilitates collaborative planning with teachers to integrate information literacy and technology skills into the curriculum. Lastly, the media center provides and promotes instruction to prepare students to become independent users of libraries and information resources. The School Library Media Center’s mission is to provide intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats; to provide instruction that fosters competence and stimulates interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas; and to work with other educators to design learning strategies and opportunities to meet the needs of individual students. My vision is to always remember this mission for my future media center. I will be diligent in maintaining current materials, providing access to information, implementing programs that will provide students with the skills they need to utilize information, collaborating with teachers to provide learning experiences for students, and providing a supportive and nurturing environment where the entire school community feels welcome. In doing these things I hope to develop and maintain a media center program that provides the instruction and guidance in order for its students, staff and community to become lifelong learners. |
